FRIENDSHIP, LOVE, & TRUTH

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows is dedicated to fostering personal growth and strengthening community bonds by providing a "community for the sake of community".

WHO ARE THE ODD FELLOWS?

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows is one of the oldest and largest fraternities in the world.  We are non-political and non-sectarian

We believe that life is a continuous journey of growth, guided by a commitment to service and leading by example. For over 200 years, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows has upheld a legacy of selfless support helping one another and our communities without expecting anything in return.

As Odd Fellows, we recognize the fleeting nature of worldly possessions, the fragility of human life, and the certainty of its eventual end. True fulfillment lies not in wealth, but in the lasting impact we make through kindness, integrity, and brotherhood.

SPENCER BUTTE LODGE NO. 9

Three decades after the founding of the first Independent Order of Odd Fellows lodge in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1819, members of the order began moving westward. By late 1852, a thriving community had taken root in and around Salem, leading to the establishment of Chemeketa Lodge No. 1 Oregon’s first Odd Fellows lodge and the earliest in the Northwest.

Less than a decade later, citizens of Eugene followed suit, officially chartering Spencer Butte Lodge No. 9 on May 1, 1861. Among the lodge’s earliest members was Eugene F. Skinner, the namesake of The City of Eugene.

This period marked a significant expansion of the Odd Fellows' influence in the region, reinforcing their mission of fellowship, service, and community support.
